Lake Gregory Self-Guided Walking Tour
Two rescues, forty years apart, saved this water. In 1977 a cash-strapped district gave the 100-acre lake to the county for free; in 2014–2019 a $20-million-plus rehab fixed the "high-hazard" 1938 dam. Without both, Lake Gregory might have been drained for good.

Lake Gregory Self-Guided Walking Tour
You're standing on the dam that made Lake Gregory. WPA crews began damming Houston Creek in 1937, but federal funding collapsed in 1938 and Arthur Gregory finished the job out of his own pocket. Days later, the great March 1938 floods filled the entire lake in just three days.
