The story
Raggio/Perea property
South of the Power station and the scoured canyon walls around it, the only things remaining of the dozens of families that lived in cabins there at the plant - aside from a few most fortunate survivors, were the massive power generation turbines. the flood was to come in contact with homesteaders and early farms and ranches as it roared past the narrows of the Powerplant #2.
The Ruiz family tragedy is a foremost example of what the canyon residents went through that evening and in the months that followed. A small cemetery in the canyon holds the remains of nearly the entire Ruiz family. "Seven direct members of the Ruiz family — Enrique (Henry), Rosaria, four of their unmarried children and their married daughter Rosarita Erratchuo — were killed by floodwaters shortly after midnight on March 13, 1928 — moments after the St. Francis Dam broke at three minutes before midnight on March 12."
