The story

The Aftermath

The Department and many other agencies worked together to clean up in a great show of teamwork in the wake of the crisis. Leading the protective cause and the case for restitution in Santa Paula and the whole Santa Clara valley was a man named Charles Teague and the Citizen's Protective League. While the newspapers of the valley and Los Angeles were fiery in accusation and defense, the experienced Teague, long a leader in valley farming cooperative efforts was measured in his early responses. This would go a long way in sowing some harmony as the Red Cross and the Department of Water and Power and the valley created subcommittees to tackle refugee assistance, health and traffic, and a myriad of other logistical challenges they would face immediately and in the coming months.
